What to expect from toenail reconstruction

Damaged, lifted or missing toenails can be rebuilt so they look and feel natural again. If you have been putting off getting help, here is what the treatment actually involves.

toenail reconstruction treatment

A damaged toenail is far more common than people think. It can follow a stubbed toe, a lost nail, years of tight shoes or a nail that has simply never grown back quite right. Many people quietly cover it up for years, which is a shame, because it is one of the treatments we are best known for.

What toenail reconstruction is

Reconstruction uses a specialist gel to rebuild a natural-looking nail plate over or around what remains of your own nail. The result is both cosmetic and protective: your toe looks neat again, and the rebuilt surface shields the tender skin underneath while your natural nail grows.

This is where our years of experience really count. With over 11 years of practice and a Level 3 qualification, rebuilding toenails is one of the things clients travel to Moseley for, and it is a large part of our 5.0 rating from 463 reviews.

During your appointment

We start by looking at the toe and talking through what you would like. Then we gently prepare the nail, build the gel up in careful layers, and shape and finish it so it sits naturally alongside your other nails. If you would like colour on top, we can add that too.

Will it hurt?

Not at all. Reconstruction is non-invasive and comfortable, with no filing into your skin and nothing that stings. It is a cosmetic and protective treatment rather than a medical or podiatry one, so if we ever spot signs of infection we will gently point you towards your GP first.

How long it lasts and what it costs

A rebuilt nail grows out gradually with your natural nail and is topped up at your regular visits. Toenail reconstruction starts from £15, is £30 alongside a toe tidy, £50 as part of a pedicure, and £62 within a gel pedicure. We will always tell you which option suits your toe before we begin.
